On Repetition

Do you ever get the feeling reading my cards that you just might have read the same words before?

I have been accused  of unconsciously repeating topics, that some cards are talking about points brought up before and sometimes even in very similar ways. I’m quite offended by this accusation, actually. I don’t do that, at least not unconsciously, at all. I’m actually fully aware!

Repetition is good.

I put down thoughts as they come to me, triggered by something I read or by a conversation with a client, or with an uber driver. I accept the Universe telling me the topic is relevant in that way. I don’t look back and think “did I write about this before?” a) I don’t care whether I did and b)…

Repetition is good.

One doesn’t step into the same river twice, an old adage says. The key is in the word “same.” The river changes, but careful, so does the one stepping in, which in turn often changes the perception of the river itself. Does the rushing water FEEL warmer than the last time? It may be, or perhaps, you got more used to the cold in the meantime.

Repetition is good.

In Metronomics, we unashamedly repeat the same core steps of the 3HAG Wheel every time we believe things evolved, whether it is the team, the market or the product. Sometimes only because the last approach didn’t yield the desired results the last time. Doing the same thing again, in perhaps better settings, can dramatically alter the outcome – and always for the better. So, let me say one more time:

Repetition is good.

Re-read a book you believe you know intimately. Re-visit a place you’ve been to before. Tell your team, again, what the purpose of your company is. Go back to defining and understanding your core customer. “We did that already” is never a good excuse, because you haven’t. You did something different the last time, knowingly or not. I might’ve misled you a bit in the last paragraph, because…

Repetition is good.

Now read this over again and see what you learn or think the second time around.
